Group photo at Skidmore

Skidmore College
This week's college visit saw the girls in Saratoga, a famously beautiful town about 45 minutes from Troy, touring Skidmore College, a well-known liberal arts school. Despite the heat, the girls enjoyed the campus and knowledgeable tour guide--and they loved taking pictures of the squirrels around campus!

the girls were troupers in the heat!
After the college visit, the girls enjoyed a few highlights of Saratoga including browsing at the local bookstore, eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream and seeing a horse race at the Harness Track!

The girls decorated masks with glitter, sequins, feathers, glow-in-the-dark paint and other personal, creative touches. Stay tuned for a fun Friday night activity involving these creations!

Week Three
This week's theme is Local History. The girls will be learning about the history of New York state, in particular Troy (the town in which Emma WIllard School is located) and Albany, the capital of New York state.  They will be visiting historic landmarks and the New York State Museum, as well as writing essays. Our rhetorical mode for the week is Compare and Contrast, and the girls began to practice comparison with analogies and some brainstorming in Venn Diagrams.
Outside of the classroom, the weather cooled off (finally!) and the girls enjoyed a game of Capture the Flag.  You can see the school's beautiful Gothic architecture (one of the landmarks of Troy we won't have to travel far to view!) in the background.

Community Service Week Two

The girls met again with their little partners from the Emmaus Summer Camp. The kids were so excited to see them! Our Emma girls made us proud with their patience and enthusiasm as they read together.
